Ray McNiece Stati Uniti inglese Ray McNiece si è guadagnato una fama internazionale come poeta e performer nei circa venti anni trascorsi a scrivere e rappresentare i suoi monologhi teatrali, le sue poesie e musiche. È stato per due volte capitano della squadra per il National Poetry Slam Championship, ha tenuto spettacoli e laboratori per bambini da lui stesso definiti "edutaining" (educazione/divertimento) e si è impegnato in tour annuali in tutto il paese recitando le sue poesie, i racconti e le canzoni.
Ray è autore di sei libri di poesie: "Dis", "The Bone-Orchard Conga", "The Road that Carried Me Here", "Song that Fathoms Home", e "Wet Sand Raven Tracks –New Haiku", e "Us? Talking Across America", due monologhi teatrali – "Dis – Voices From a Shelter", "Us? Talking Across America", due collaborazioni di musica/poesia – "Mouth Music", "A Rust bowl Hootenanny", e un’opera teatrale in collaborazione – "Homegirl meets Whiteboy" - con Shawn Jackson. È stato inoltre coeditore dell’antologia di Poesia Buddista Contemporanea, "America Zen". L’Orlando Sentinel in un articolo su uno spettacolo di Ray al Fringe Festival lo ha definito “un erede moderno di Woody Guthrie. Ci sa fare con le parole ed ha un un sarcastico senso dell’umorismo.” È stato la voce di Woody Guthrie nel documentario radiofonico vincitore del WCPN/NPR, Hard Travellin’.
I momenti di rilievo dei suoi recenti tours includono una conferenza con Robert Bly al First Coast Writer’s Conference, un reading per l’apertura della City Light’s Italia a Firenze con Lawrence Ferlinghetti, ed una performance con la sua band Tongue in Groove allo Starwood Festival, aperto dal leggendario percussionista Babatunde Oluntunje. Nell’estate del 2001 ha fatto un tour in Russia con Yevgeny Yevtushenko in cui è apparso in Good Morning, Russia e ha fatto uno spettacolo al Moscow Polytech, il Russian Poets’ Hall of Fame dove soprannominato ‘the American Mayakovski’.
Ha ricevuto molti premi e riconoscimenti, fra i più recenti nel 2001 l’Hart Crane Award fda KSU, una residenza al Cuyahoga Valley National Park, e una residenza alla Jack Kerouac House in Orlando, Florida. È stato capitano di due squadre per il National Poetry Slam Championship (’92 Boston, ’94 Cleveland) e ha vinto l’Arkansas Grand Slam, il più grande premio di poesia mai assegnato.
È inoltre un ottimo attore e ha partecipato a spettacoli ai teatri Ensemble, Dobama, Cleveland Public e Cleveland Playhouse. Recita nelle scuole nei ruoli di Johnny Appleseed e Thomas Jefferson.
Nel 2000 ha preso parte ad Amalfi a "Parole di Mare. Incontri internazionali di poesia".
