Inauguration of the House of Poets

On March 21st, the first day of spring, on the occasion of the "World Poetry Day", Casa della Poesia, of Baronissi / Salerno, opens the doors of the "house of poets" to all friends, enthusiasts, institutions, presenting itself and a series of initiatives in a "family" context. The initiative will continue in the following days, thus celebrating Easter together and this new challenge from the Salerno organization. House of Poetry was born thirteen years ago to provide accommodation, hospitality, "home" to a series of experiences, relationships, materials, documents, productions, projects. Together with these elements, the original project imagined it would truly become a "home" and a place of arrival for poets from all over the world who refer to it or who recognize themselves in the cultural project, of commitment, of solidarity, of encounter. The original idea was also born from the desire to give help, assistance, "refuge and nest" to poets and writers who were experiencing a situation of difficulty (economic, political, racial, censorship, etc.). We then had before our eyes the tragedy that had struck our dear Izet Sarajlic (later Honorary President of the House of Poetry), who lived in besieged Sarajevo. Only after many years has this part of the House of Poetry project been realized thanks to the stubbornness, perseverance and professionalism of its organizers, who, amidst the lukewarm attention of local institutions, are imposing their own "vision" of creating culture, bringing this further piece to the attention of the international poetic circuit, which makes House of Poetry truly unique on the national and international scene. The "house of poets" will host for long or short stays, poets, writers, intellectuals, artists, coming from various parts of the world who by necessity, invitation or choice, want to live for a period in our geographical area, asking them, in exchange for their hospitality, their willingness to "meet" the territory and its institutions (students, teachers, young writers, seminars, readings, translations, etc.). In the coming months, the presence of extraordinary protagonists of the poetic scene is expected: Josip Osti (Bosnia/Slovenia), Sinan Gudzevic (Serbia/Croatia), Maram al Masri (Syria), Louis-Philippe Dalembert (Haiti), Aharon Shabtai (Israel), Jack Hirschman (United States), Agneta Falk (Sweden/England), Vojo Sindolic (Croatia), Michael McClure (United States), Amy Ewan McClure (United States). Laboratory and work spaces have been set up in the same structure to encourage the organization and free use of the large amount of materials available to the House of Poetry (audio, video archives, library, media library) and to create audio and video recording stations and develop online projects). During the inauguration days: readings, screenings, exhibitions, poetic rituals, listening stations, food, tea, coffee, wine, etc. etc. (see programme).
