From 13 December to 22 January, at the Pinacoteca Provinciale di Salerno (via Mercanti, 67), as part of the project "The Spirit of Places", in collaboration with the Provincial Administration of Salerno, Casa della Poesia and Multimedia Edizioni are organizing the exhibition "Little Kaddish", a tribute to the American poet, painter, translator, Jack Hirschman (1933-2021). Paintings, drawings, readings, films, audio, photos, meetings, memories, verses. On the occasion of what would have been his eighty-ninth birthday and after 30 years of joint projects, the exhibition pays homage to a legend of poetry and American counterculture, companion, friend, brother, founder of the House of Poetry project and pillar of the international poetic community, who passed away in August 2021.
Program
Inauguration Tuesday 13 December 2022, from 6.00 pm. During the event the video "H. & H. - Hemingway & Hirschman - The letter" will be screened. Among the many guests: Francesco Guzzetta and Martin Diaz of the Terni Jazz Orchestra. Sunday 18 December, at 11.00 am, Sergio Iagulli and Raffaella Marzano will talk about what can be considered Hirschman's magnum opus "The Arcanes", four large volumes (published by Multimedia Edizioni in the original language) which collect decades of poetic writing. And they will also present that little editorial miracle that was "The Arcanum of Vietnam", a work lost and found after about 30 years. On Wednesday 4 January 2023, at 6.00 pm, Matthew Furey's film "Red Poet", dedicated to the great American poet, will be screened. Sunday 8 January, at 11.00, "The languages of translation", an in-depth seminar on Jack Hirschman's extraordinary activity as a translator from countless languages. Hirschman translated, in about 40 years, almost 100 books, from Russian, French, Spanish, German, Yiddish, Hebrew, Italian, Albanian, Greek, Haitian Creole, Georgian, Swedish. Among the many translated poets: Vladimir Mayakovsky, Pablo Neruda, Antonin Artaud, Roque Dalton, Pier Paolo Pasolini, Rocco Scotellaro, Santo Calì, Paul Laraque, Paul Celan, Martin Heidegger, René Char, Stéphane Mallarmé, Jean Baudrillard, Paul Eluard, Martin Heidegger, Aleksej Kručënych, Ismaël Aït Djafer, Jean Sénac, Itzhak Katznelson, Alberto Masala, Ferruccio Brugnaro, Sarah Kirsch. Katerina Gogou, Luisa Pasamanik Ambar Past. He was also the first to translate and publish Alfonso Gatto in the United States with the volume "Magma" (2009). During Sunday's meeting, a film will be screened that reconstructs his reading of Alfonso Gatto's poems, with Aldo Vigorito on double bass, held in Salerno on 26 May 2009, at the Cloister of San Lorenzo. On Friday 13 January, at 7.00 pm, Marco Cinque will hold his reading-concert "Elegia del rosso" dedicated to the great poet and friend. Marco Cinque writes: «No distance between word and life: Jack Hirschman and his poetry have always been an inseparable whole. It seems impossible to accept the fact that he left and she stayed. Since then, every day, a poetic thought has materialized, as if wanting to process the mourning, exorcise the loss. This "Elegy of Red" was therefore a sort of rehabilitation therapy after a profound trauma. Now it's time to get rid of the crutches and give voice to the elegy dedicated to him, to try to recompose that broken whole." Thursday 19 January at 6.00 pm: "The red heart of America", invitation to read some poems by the American poet with Giancarlo Cavallo. Sunday 22 January 2023, closing of "Little Kaddish. Jack Hirschman. 1933-2021", a multimedia exhibition dedicated to the great American poet, cornerstone of the House of Poetry. The film of the reading-concert by Jack Hirschman and the Terni Jazz Orchestra in Miami, in the United States, will accompany us in this final appointment.
