Homage to Alfonso Gatto

An evening dedicated to Alfonso Gatto will take place on Monday 6 March at 8.30 pm at the Casa della Poesia headquarters in Baronissi, thirty years after the death of the Salerno poet on 8 March 1976. Casa della Poesia wants to remind him to its friends and poetry enthusiasts with an evening which, through various materials (audio, video, readings), will give space, above all, to the poet's voice and his work. Among the documents presented is the unmissable "An hour with Alfonso Gatto", the story of the poet with the poet, who tells about himself, his poetry, his meetings, his personal history, and shows Gatto's cities (Rome, Florence, Milan and mainly Salerno, with beautiful images of the city in the early Seventies); the beautiful interview "Ten questions to Alfonso Gatto" from 1963; some fragments of Gatto reading his poems. We suppose that others, in Salerno and in many cities, will organize meetings, conferences and memories addressing various aspects of Gatto's personality and work. We also like to remember him through the collection "History of the Victims", with his "poems of the Resistance", a too often overlooked aspect of Gatto's poetics and which instead seems to us to be of great interest and worthy of further future investigation. During the evening, Roberto Lombardi will read poems from "The history of the victims", with Renato Costarella on the piano. House of poetry is a project by Multimedia Edizioni, supported by the Province of Salerno and the Municipality of Baronissi.
