In line with Regina's personality and the history of the House of Poetry, the Prize is characterized by sobriety and absolute independence, not requiring patronage or contributions from public or private bodies or institutions. With it we intend to valorise the work carried out by a woman over the years in the literary field and which has been accompanied by a significant civil and social commitment. And this as a tribute to Regina Coppola and in full awareness of the major difficulties still faced today by women in asserting themselves in all fields of life in Italy and in the world. The Lifetime Achievement Award is awarded to a poet who has particularly distinguished herself according to the two guidelines just mentioned. The jury of the Casa della Poesia International Prize, composed of Raffaella Marzano (President), Stefania Zuliani, Piero Cavallo, Sergio Iagulli and Francesco Napoli, has chosen the winner from a shortlist of names reported by the members themselves. INTERNATIONAL "HOUSE OF POETRY - REGINA COPPOLA" AWARD, 2016 1st edition Proclamation of the winner - Motivation The international House of Poetry Award was strongly desired by the Cavallo-Coppola family in full harmony with the House of Poetry of Baronissi-Salerno, to keep alive the memory of Regina Coppola (16 June 1956 - 6 June 2015), whose sensitivity towards aesthetic values and social solidarity are well known to those who knew her. The Award, characterized by sobriety and absolute independence, has not requested and does not receive patronage or contributions from public or private bodies or institutions. It intends to valorise the work carried out by a woman over the years in the literary field and which has been accompanied by a significant civil and social commitment. And this as a tribute to Regina Coppola and in full awareness of the major difficulties still faced today by women to emerge in every field. The jury, chaired by Raffaella Marzano and composed of Stefania Zuliani, Giancarlo Cavallo, Sergio Iagulli and Francesco Napoli, decided to award the first Regina Coppola International House of Poetry Prize to BARBARA KORUN, with the following motivation: The poetry of the Slovenian Barbara Korun, translated and published in twelve languages, subversive, honest and ironic, is the happy outcome of a work aware of both the great literary tradition of the twentieth century, in which furrow fits in with strong originality, both with the value of one's femininity. His verses, often whispered and yet always vigorous, manage to convey a positive message, not only when they deal with themes such as love and eroticism, to which the Slovenian language lends itself so well (in fact it has, in addition to singular and plural, also the dual, specific for couples of people or objects), but even when it deals with the theme of death which is accepted in a natural, almost joyful way ("the thought of death is like / a soft pillow", "death is like a sister", "death she is […] a great friend”). In addition to the aforementioned specific areas of the female condition and love, Korun's poetics also includes history, current events and the environment, always illustrated with great sensitivity and analytical ability, with the courage and desire to ask questions, even those that are difficult to answer. But Barbara Korun is a courageous woman not only in the literary field: for some time, in fact, she has been involved as a volunteer in the refugee reception camps in Slovenia, where she also carries out purely material tasks, testifying, in these times of walls and barbed wire in which selfishness and fears seem to prevail, the value of solidarity in its daily concreteness. For her work as a whole and for her great human and social sensitivity, the jury believes, in line with the programmatic intentions already mentioned, to award Barbara Korun this award dedicated to the memory of Regina Coppola.
