INTERNATIONAL HOUSE OF POETRY AWARD "REGINA COPPOLA", 2018

About this event

INTERNATIONAL HOUSE OF POETRY AWARD "REGINA COPPOLA" International House of Poetry Award to the poet Agneta Falk The third edition of the International House of Poetry Award, strongly desired by the Cavallo-Coppola family in full harmony with the House of Poetry of Baronissi-Salerno, to keep alive the memory of Regina Coppola (16 June 1956 - 6 June 2015), whose sensitivity towards aesthetic values and social solidarity are well known to those who knew her, is about to reach the final event. In line with Regina's personality and the history of the House of Poetry, the Prize is characterized by sobriety and absolute independence, not requiring patronage or contributions from public or private bodies or institutions. With it we intend to valorise the work carried out by a woman over the years in the literary field and which has been accompanied by a significant civil and social commitment. And this as a tribute to Regina Coppola and in full awareness of the major difficulties still faced today by women in asserting themselves in all fields of life in Italy and in the world. The Prize - which in previous editions was awarded to the Slovenian Barbara Korun (2016) and the Syrian Maram al-Masri (2017) - is therefore awarded for her career to a poet who has particularly distinguished herself according to the two guidelines just mentioned. The jury of the Casa della Poesia International Prize, composed of Raffaella Marzano (President), Stefania Zuliani, Giancarlo Cavallo, Sergio Iagulli and Francesco Napoli, has chosen the winner from a shortlist of names reported by the members themselves. The lifetime achievement award is awarded, for this third edition, to the poet AGNETA FALK. Agneta Falk, Swedish by birth, but a refined English speaker by adoption, is a poet and visual artist; with his work, permeated with great sensitivity and humanity, he has created bridges between different languages, languages and cultures. Co-founder of the political theater The Pantalons in Stockholm, in the 1990s Agneta organized numerous cultural events in England for the diffusion of poetry, led a group of women writers and worked in recovery centers for people suffering from mental handicaps. She is also actively involved in the fight against human trafficking and is a member of the Revolutionary Poets Brigade, an organization that promotes the development of social consciousness in San Francisco (where she currently lives) and around the world. Information

INTERNATIONAL "HOUSE OF POETRY - REGINA COPPOLA" AWARD, 2018 III edition Proclamation of the winner - Motivation The international House of Poetry Award was strongly desired by the Cavallo-Coppola family in full harmony with the House of Poetry of Baronissi-Salerno, to keep alive the memory of Regina Coppola (16 June 1956 - 6 June 2015), whose sensitivity towards aesthetic values and social solidarity are well known to those who knew her. The Award, characterized by sobriety and absolute independence, intends to valorise the work carried out by a woman over the years in the literary field and which has been accompanied by a significant civil and social commitment. And this as a tribute to Regina Coppola and in full awareness of the major difficulties still faced today by women in asserting themselves in economic and social life. The jury, chaired by Raffaella Marzano and composed of Stefania Zuliani, Giancarlo Cavallo, Sergio Iagulli and Francesco Napoli, decided to award the “Regina Coppola” International House of Poetry Prize to AGNETA FALK, with the following motivation: Agneta Falk, Swedish by birth, but a refined English speaker by adoption, is a poet and visual artist; with his work, permeated with great sensitivity and humanity, he has created bridges between different languages, languages and cultures. As perceptively said in the introduction to It's Not Love, It's Love: "Agneta Falk's poetry reflects her abiding belief that the pinnacle of human expression must affirm a free, borderless atmosphere, like a kind of international mountaintop that is simultaneously the new millennial land. This contradiction, of altitude and earthly condition, is what fuels her work, whether writing a poem about love and the nature that inspires it, or a poem that condemns injustice suffered by human beings due to systems of exploitation and oppression.” Alberto Masala, in introducing Heart Muscle, Falk's most recent publication in Italy, states that "...while always remaining colloquial and direct, her language does not weaken, on the contrary, the absence of formal games, emphasis, hermeticisms... makes it more acute and penetrating, substantial and inevitable. (...) Her verse, feminine in look and often also in the substance of observation or affectivity ("Women like you", "Sold", "Astrid", "Madge", "She"...), is populated by a humanity of marginalized people and victims whose suffering it claims and exposes, protecting them with a vigilant sense of pity that shows dignity to the bitter end even in its most extreme violations (... Only such a strong and honest identity could wield its symbols to wave them before our consciences." Co-founder of the political theater The Pantalons in Stockholm, in the 1990s Agneta organized numerous cultural events in England for the diffusion of poetry, led a group of women writers and worked in recovery centers for people suffering from mental handicaps. She is also actively involved in the fight against human trafficking and is a member of the Revolutionary Poets Brigade, an organization that promotes the development of social consciousness in San Francisco (where she currently lives) and around the world. For her work as a whole and for her great human and social sensitivity, the jury believes, in line with the programmatic intentions already mentioned, to award Agneta Falk this award dedicated to the memory of Regina Coppola.
