CARMEN YÁÑEZ
A LOVE OUT OF TIME
Carmen Yáñez and Luis Sepúlveda.
Carmen Yáñez, Chilean poet and writer, life partner of Luis Sepúlveda, will talk about their love story, through her poems and those of Sepulveda. A "poetic" journey, in a love story that has spanned the history of the last forty years (from the coup d'état in Chile in 1973, to the tragedy of the pandemic).
"The first time she sees him she barely glances at him, and then returns to dedicating herself to his verses. But he too is a poet and this meeting will inaugurate an intense love story, the one between Luis Sepúlveda and Carmen Yáñez, which she herself tells in the memoir A love out of time. My life with Lucho. A story that begins in Chile at the end of the 1960s, hindered by Carmen's parents who consider Luis - an artist friend of their eldest son and a socialist militant - bad company. Instead of being discouraged, however, Lucho and his "Pelusa" meet in secret, get married and have a child. The one between them is a real partnership made of shared battles and ideals, and of dreams that shattered on September 11, 1973 with General Pinochet's coup. Luis, who is part of Salvador Allende's armed guard, is arrested, and later also Carmen, who is locked up in the Villa Grimaldi torture center. After their imprisonment, their paths diverge. They will only meet again many years later, full of different experiences and experiences to discover themselves even more united than before. A love out of time is the most intimate testimony of Luis Sepúlveda's life: two years after the death of "her poet", Carmen recalls the days spent together, from adolescence to the last moments, weaving them into the portrait of a bond that goes beyond time".
