INTERNATIONAL HOUSE OF POETRY AWARD - "REGINA COPPOLA", 2021

About this event

International House of Poetry Award to the poet Carmen Yáñez. The fifth edition of the International House of Poetry Award, strongly desired by the Cavallo-Coppola family in full harmony with the House of Poetry of Baronissi-Salerno, to keep alive the memory of Regina Coppola (16 June 1956 - 6 June 2015), whose sensitivity towards aesthetic values and social solidarity are well known to those who knew her, is about to reach its final event. In line with Regina's personality and the history of the House of Poetry, the Prize is characterized by sobriety and absolute independence, not requiring patronage or contributions from public or private bodies or institutions. With it we intend to valorise the work carried out by a woman over the years in the literary field and which has been accompanied by a significant civil and social commitment. And this as a tribute to Regina Coppola and in full awareness of the major difficulties still faced today by women in asserting themselves in all fields of life in Italy and in the world. The Prize - which in previous editions was awarded to the Slovenian Barbara Korun (2016), the Syrian Maram al-Masri (2017), the Anglo-Swedish Agneta Falk (2018) and the Italian Livia Chandra Candiani - is therefore awarded for her career to a poet who has particularly distinguished herself according to the two guidelines just mentioned. The jury of the Casa della Poesia International Prize, composed of Raffaella Marzano (President), Stefania Zuliani, Giancarlo Cavallo, Sergio Iagulli and Francesco Napoli, has chosen the winner from a shortlist of names reported by the members themselves. The lifetime achievement award is awarded, for this fourth edition, to the poet CARMEN YAÑEZ. Carmen Yáñez, born in 1952 in Santiago de Chile, into a working-class family, disappeared into the hands of Pinochet's political police in 1975. Information

INTERNATIONAL "HOUSE OF POETRY - REGINA COPPOLA" AWARD, 2021 V edition The International House of Poetry Award, now in its fifth edition, was strongly desired by the Cavallo-Coppola family in full harmony with the House of Poetry of Baronissi-Salerno, to keep alive the memory of Regina Coppola (16 June 1956 - 6 June 2015), whose sensitivity towards aesthetic values and social solidarity is well known to how many knew her. The Award, characterized by sobriety and absolute independence, has not requested and does not receive patronage or contributions from public or private bodies or institutions. It intends to valorise the work carried out by a woman over the years in the literary field and which has been accompanied by a significant civil and social commitment. And this as a tribute to Regina Coppola and in full awareness of the major difficulties still faced today by women to emerge in every field. The jury, chaired by Raffaella Marzano and composed of Stefania Zuliani, Giancarlo Cavallo, Sergio Iagulli, Francesco Napoli, Sotirios Pastakas and Juan Vicente Piqueras, decided to award the International “House of Poetry - Regina Coppola” Award to CARMEN YÁÑEZ, with the following motivation: Carmen Yáñez, born in Santiago de Chile, disappeared into the hands of the political police of Chile in 1975. Pinochet. Incredibly having escaped the hell of Villa Grimaldi (the secret house of the political police), she remained in hiding until in 1981, via Argentina and under the protection of the UN, she took refuge in exile in Sweden, where she began to publish her poetry. During his stay in Sweden, he participated in the creation of various literary workshops. Since 1990 her poetry also began to be published in Chile. In 1997 she moved to Spain, together with her husband, the writer Luis Sepúlveda, and established her residence in Asturias. She has participated in several international festivals and in 2002 in Piacenza she was awarded the «Nicolás Guillén» poetry prize. He has published seven volumes in Italy, published by Guanda: "Landscape of the cold moon", "Inhabited by memory", "Land of apples", "Goldfinders of the rain", "Latitude of dreams", "Migrations" and "Without return". His - as Alejandro Céspedes says - is "a writing of blinding and tamed pain which in its sweet and shared nostalgia wounds us and redeems us". In "Migrations", with painful verses and throbbing humanity, she feels the need to undertake a poetic journey on the planet of migration: in all these people Carmen sees the same humanity that - like her at the beginning of the 80s - crosses an "uncertain landscape of strange dreams" in search of a definitive landing place, an island that only a poetry mixed with love, a poetry that is memory and balm, can make us touch. Carmen Yáñez writes for all those who have been lost at least once and her verse, although starting from her own unmistakable experience, aspires to be all the voices of those who have no voice. For her work as a whole and for her great human and social sensitivity, the jury believes, in line with the programmatic intentions already mentioned, to award Carmen Yáñez this award dedicated to the memory of Regina Coppola.
