About this event

Multimedia Edizioni / House of Poetry in collaboration with the Huka Hey Association - Movement in defense of Native Americans is proud to collaborate with the creators, Lance Henson and Lisa Schnorf, in organizing a poetry tour with indigenous poets from tribal populations whose existence is currently threatened by multinationals and local governments who despise their way of life. Poetry is a force that is an integral part of the political and metaphysical life of indigenous peoples. Many poets from these tribal nations are deeply committed to their people's struggle against the tyranny of corporate neocolonialism. For twenty-two years, every year indigenous peoples have held a conference in Geneva, Switzerland, at the United Nations. This forum remains one of the few places where tribal voices can exert a common political-social impact on governments whose plans are not at all favorable to indigenous nations. The project aims to be a complement to the ongoing dialogue at the UN and will open new doors of communication between tribal voices and communities, schools and universities across Europe. The poets will bring a message of cultural solidarity from their respective tribal nations. Starting from 12 October until 15 December 2000, four indigenous poets, two men and two women, arrive in Europe from their tribal territories to organize seminars, lessons, round tables in different European countries: Italy, Switzerland, Austria and Germany, invited by universities, schools, ethnological museums, bookstores, libraries and other public institutions or associations.
