Mimi Khalvati nata a Tehran, Iran, il 28 aprile 1944. Dai sei anni è cresciuta sull'Isola di Wight fino a diciassette anni quando tornò in Iran dove rimase fino a venticinque anni. Ha studiato in Svizzera alla University of Neuchâtel, e a Londra al Drama Centre and the School of African and Oriental Studies.
