The path of comets. 2003
About this event
After the great success of the last edition, "The path of comets. International poetry meetings" returns to Pistoia on 19, 20 and 21 June, the annual appointment with some of the most important poetic voices on the international scene, which is establishing itself as one of the most significant national cultural events among those dedicated to poetry. The event, promoted by the Municipality of Pistoia (Department of Culture), the Tuscany Region (“Porto Franco”, Department of Culture), the Pistoia Theater Association, with the participation of the Province of Pistoia and the Presidency of the City Council, is organized by Multimedia Edizioni / Casa della Poesia. The path of the comets also this year includes the presence of poets from all over the world, who will be the protagonists of readings accompanied by live music. It will be an opportunity to spend three days in the beautiful Tuscan city, visit the countless artistic places in the region and immerse yourself in contemporary poetry by meeting some of the absolute protagonists of the international scene. Participating in the 2003 edition will be the extraordinary Etel Adnan, one of the most important writers of the Arab diaspora; the Englishman Tony Harrison, whose book “In queue for Caronte” was recently published by Einaudi; Jack Hirschman, for many the greatest living American poet; Marko Vešović, one of the most poignant voices of the great legacy of Bosnia and Herzegovina; Slovenian Ales Debeljak; the African-American Devorah Major, splendid voice of jazz-poetry; Willem Van Toorne, among the most translated Dutch poets in the world; Clara Janes, one of the best-known Spanish female voices; Paul Polansky, poet, photographer and social worker who has been committed to the defense of Roma culture and populations for years; the Egyptian Fatma Qandil, a young, free voice, committed to female emancipation in the Arab world; the extraordinary Khal Torabully, poet, semiologist and film director, coming from the Mauritius Islands, a talent of the French-speaking "mestizo" culture; Agneta Falk, Anglo-Swedish poet and painter; the Romanian Daniela Crasnaru, one of the most illustrious and awarded Romanian poets, also known for her opposition to the Ceaucescu regime; and finally, hosts and established poets, Roberto Carifi and Giacomo Trinci. Furthermore, a tribute to Izet Sarajlić, the great voice of Sarajevo, who passed away last year, is planned. Sarajlić was the protagonist of the first edition of the event. A series of seminars will accompany the path of the comets. There is much anticipation for the "voices of poetry" section, much visited last year, where it will be possible to listen to the great voices of Nocevento poetry with simultaneous translations (Akhmatova, Majakovskj, Esenin, Ginsberg, Kerouac, Frost, Hughes, Plath, Artaud, Eluard, Senghor, Pasolini, Gatto, Montale, Ungaretti, Neruda, Borges, Benedetti, Drummond De Andrade, and many others.).
