Sarajevo 2002. International poetry meetings
About this event
The international poetry meetings "Sarajevo 2002" will take place on 11, 12 and 13 October in the city of Sarajevo. The event organized by the Italian Embassy in Sarajevo in collaboration with a group of entities from our territory (Campania Region, Province of Salerno, Municipality of Salerno, Municipality of Baronissi) and the Pen Club of Sarajevo, is curated by Multimedia Edizioni / Casa della Poesia di Baronissi / Salerno. This great poetic event, dedicated to Izet Sarajlic who recently passed away, aims to realize what had been the dream of the great Bosnian poet in recent years, to bring great international poetry back to Sarajevo. Ten years after the beginning of the terrible Bosnian war and the siege of Sarajevo, relocating the Bosnian city in a project that has as its centrality a culture of encounter, exchange and brotherhood acquires a symbolic and political value. The poets participating in the event come from various parts of the world and were friends and collaborators of the great Bosnian poet and will meet other poets from Bosnia or from the former Yugoslavia. Among the invited poets: Bisera Alikadic (Bosnia), Judi Benson (England), Louis-Philippe Dalembert (Haiti), Vojka Smiljanic-Djikic (Bosnia), Tommaso Di Francesco (Italy), Ferida Durakovic (Bosnia), Agneta Falk (Sweden/England), Sinan Gudževic (Serbia / Croatia), Jack Hirschman (United States), Josip Osti (Bosnia/Slovenia), Ljubica Ostojic (Bosnia), Alberto Masala (Italy), Velimir Miloševic (Bosnia), Serge Pey (France), Juan Vicente Piqueras (Spain), Eloy José Santos (Spain), Abdulah Sidran (Bosnia), Ken Smith (England), Marko Vesovic (Bosnia), Carmen Yáñez (Chile). In addition to the international reading, other events included: Mario Boccia's exhibition "The Faces of Izet", the awarding of the honorary citizenship of Salerno to the poet's daughter Tamara, the presentation of some video clips of Sarajlic's readings by the multimedia laboratory of Casa della Poesia, the exchange of letters between the poet and Erri De Luca, and many other things. Great honor and great recognition for the Salerno organization, being called to curate this great international event, and now launched on the national and international scene as one of the most capable and dynamic structures.
